User Comments about the name Mabel
Comment left Sep 03, 2010: "My name is Mable and I am an an older Mable. 60 to be exact. I hated the name when I was young. I was called "Mable, Mable set the table, don't forget the red hot gravy" and Mable Carling black label" for years! I have grown to love the name today even though once in awhile somebody will try the old teasing game or insist on spelling it their way. I look at it like after all my mother named me after her faverite first cousin named Mable and "Aunt Mable" is absolutely gorgeous looking today at age 90! Everybody has a Mable somewhere in the family. Its a great tradition." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Jun 11, 2010: "my mabel sure is loveable, as the name means. i was told we were having a boy, so seth was her name, till she came out and dr said its a girl. my husband said mabel it is then! its a great, unique, spunky name. no frumpy granny names here, just the most beautiful happy little girl!" Comment left Jun 04, 2010: "My name is mabel , my mom is Mabel too. I like my name and it is not common at all, I only know one person with this name." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left May 29, 2010: "My wife and I named our daughter Mabel- it was anonymous, we both love it. She is exceptionally beautiful and it fits her name. Everyone loves the name since she was born but before that, they werent all fans." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Feb 23, 2009: "i like my name mabel!
nobody has my name
its different" (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left May 13, 2008: "I adore the name Mabel, I like the simplicity of it and it makes me think of a wholesome pink-cheeked child. Perhaps this is because I don't know any old women with the name, but I'm a fan of old-fashioned names in general anyways." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Apr 19, 2008: "I had a great Aunt Mabel. It is nice, but yes, old fashioned. I like it better than some of these new names out there!" (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Feb 05, 2008: "Where I am, this is still an "old lady" name (think Mildred or Phyllis). However, I suppose Mabel could make a comeback - British comedienne Tracey Ullman, after all, chose it for her daughter in 1986 and this Mabel, although so young, seems to now be coming of age." Comment left Oct 20, 2007: "It is a sweet, lovely name which brings to mind a more genteel era." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Aug 29, 2007: "I love it since it was my grandmother's name. In England we shorten it to Mae or Mab. I prefer Mae." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Aug 03, 2007: "My daughter (9 mths) is Mabel it comes from Amabel and means lovely.
Note the rising popularity of similar "old lady chic" names such as Elsie, Iris, Ellen, Martha, Constance etc" (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Jul 29, 2007: "Just think that if this name does become popular again it may result in a grandchild called Carol or Janet or Susan and then a great-grandchild called Lisa or Michelle or Tracy. I still think this name is in the same category as Maude and Mildred, associated with frumpy old grandmothers with walking sticks." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Jul 21, 2007: "I still think this is an old lady's name although it is not hideous like Bertha and Gertrude." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Jul 10, 2007: "Me and my husband both had grandmothers named Mabel. So we named our little girl Megan Mabel. She's our little M&M; she was only 3 pounds at birth. I wouldn't have minded naming her Mabel, though. It's a unique name and I think it should come back in popularity." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Jun 27, 2007: "My name is Mabel but everyone misspells it 'Mable' or 'Mabell' or sometimes even 'Maybul'. My name is confusing but I've loved it from the start. I have a son due and I'm naming him after my husband, Patrick. If I have a daughter she will be Patricia Belle, so she can have a little bit of both of us in her name." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Jun 09, 2007: "my sisters name is mabel and she is an absolute blessing we love her to bits although this mabel talks a hell of a lot.bless her cotten socks" (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left May 29, 2007: "My friend named her dog Mabel. But I nick named the dog Anabel! I love it!" (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left May 23, 2007: "I really like the name Mabel because it sounds sweet and wholesome, and is definitely unique and set apart from the million Hannahs and Avas out there. My husband doesn't care for it, but I'm trying to convince him to like it." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left May 10, 2007: "My mother is called Mabel Joan but always refers to herself as Joan as she hates the name Mabel. She is 88 now and was named after an aunt who died aged 18. People often misspell it Mable as in Table." (Report as inappropriate)
Comment left Feb 16, 2007: "I love this name so much but I don't know if I can convince my husband!" (Report as inappropriate)
